Once we’ve built your safety net and added some exposure to global trends, it’s time to look for big winners. A tiny % of stocks and funds offer true edge, and if a company shows a pattern of executing its vision we should take advantage of our ability to invest alongside such talent. We won't catch every Apple Computer, but do believe tomorrow's leaders are often staring right at us if we open our eyes to the market's message.
We've included a couple of papers that show just how important it is to hunt for winners instead of pack-dwellers. The median return of stocks falls far short of the mean return, as a handful of stocks in each decade have comprised a large part of the market's gains. It's a competitive world out there, and companies that aren't moving forward are falling behind...we need to find new and exceptional growth, or risk being stuck in emerging losers.
